Jeffstunes's Blog

73rd video

It's the 2nd of 3 songs written by Mick Paul and I a while back, that I have selected to upload. Ths one shows off Mick's Bass skills a bit. I wanted acoustic guitar and Bass only in this, and I think it turned out very well. The vocals are a little off key in places. This song, and most of the others written with Mick. were written hours before they were recorded, so I'm not really surprised at the mistakes.

The song is about a very dark subject, though I'm not going to tell you here. You'll have to watch the video to discover it. I reveal the meaning near the end of the video. It gives a completely new angle on the words.

Returning to Mick. Here is some information on the history so far of this very talented guy:

Played on 2 singles in 1970.

Joined "The Hotshots" in 1973. They had a number 4 hit.

Joined "Union express" in 1974 and toured Europe for 2 years.

From 1978, he did some session work for the B.B.C. and for a various number of publishers.

Did a stint as an in-house bass player at Abbeydale studios in West London.

Co-wrote the Labour Party campaign song in 1987.

Joined "More tea vicar in 1990.

Wrote and played on a single called "Aquarius" for Yello records, which was produced by Tyrrell.

He played bass on the "David Hasselhoff" single "If we could only say goodbye" (Yes. It's The Hoff).

and more..

I'll provide a link to his recording studio website:

Froosound Recording Studio

Mick is the person doing all the music in this song. He also did the music for the song in the previous post, and the next post I do.

Anyway. This one is called "Losing my mind". I hope you enjoy it, and the Bass :)

Losing my mind - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

Now for the Youtube stuff.

A rise in my subs to 692.

The Channel views are 15,540.

The total video views are now at 237,970. Still on schedule to reach a quarter of a million by the 17th. Rising at roughly a thousand views a day.

Coming next is the third of the old original songs, featuring Mick Paul.

I'm still working hard on the album. I had a song in my head, as I was waking up yesterday. A strange way to discover a song, but I thought it was very good. So I'm going to put it together to see what it sounds like, and if it's good enough, it can go on the album.

They wont tell you why

I'm going to go back in time a little with three selected songs I composed when I first started recording my music seriously.

A few years ago I wrote and recorded 9 songs in about two weeks with a very talented guy called "Mick Paul".

Mick plays a mean Bass Guitar and has been busy in his career up to now. He owns his own recording studio, and that is where all of those 9 songs were recorded.

I've picked 3 of those songs to upload to youtube, and this is the first of them.

The title of the song is "Amber falls". The meaning is quite dark. I wonder if you can work out what the song is about, before the video tells you near the end.

Check out the video here:

Amber falls - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

I've included some information about Mick in the video, and I will be putting more information in the following 2 videos from that collection. There may be a name or two that some music lovers might recognise.

I put a warning in the video description of this song, because the song contains what is known as "Speaker busters". Extremely deep high volume bass notes, that can cause damage to a bass speaker when it's turned up full. So be warned :)

Now for a youtube update.

I only need another 10 subs to get to 700. So the current figure is 690.

The channel viewings have increased to 15,424.

My total video viewings are 235,621. At this rate, I might get to the quarter of a million by the first anniversary of my first video upolad to youtube.

Coming next is the second of these three old original songs.

Working on my website

It has been a mad rush week. I've done some work on my own website, so that I can get it ready for the release of the album. I've updated some of the info. Added some links. I've also put an email registration on my home page, so that people can register for updates on the progress of my album.

I've stressed that the email address will only be used for that purpose, and will not be shared with anyone else. I have also added that same registration feature to another website I have a page on.

So now I can finally give out my website address. I've had it for a few years already, but it's just been sitting there :)

Anyway. Here it is. My website:

Jeffs music

There is a music player on there that has got a selection of songs that I've created over the last 4 years. I could have removed them, because the recording quality is not very good on some, and the vocals are less than perfect on a number of them. However, I want them to stay there for a while to show how everything started. Including all the mistakes and flaws.

Now this next bit is very interesting. A friend messaged me on Youtube, who had created a live internet TV channel, and he asked me if he could use some of my original music in his shows. I agreed, of course. He informed that when the first show aired, it received over 1,000 viewers in the first 3 hours!!!

This is a link to that channel:

Music for you - Live channel

This guy needs some more original music videos for his channel, so if you write your own stuff, and want it aired on a live internet broadcast channel, then go to the link above and contact him via his email address. It could get you some good exposure, just like me :)

Finally I'll finish up with the Youtube figures.

I gained 2 subscribers, but then I lost 2 :( So it's still 681.

The channel views are now at 15,146.

Another increase of a few thousand on my total video views. The are now 229,501.

A cover version of my song

There's been another cover version of one of my original songs. This time it's "Broadcast fantasy".

It was performed by "PetesBehr" on Youtube. His recording of this song is a bit like an unplugged version.

This guy has covered another one of my songs in the past.

I think that this differs quite a bit from the original song, but I quite like what he's done with it. He has created his own interpretation of it, and that is something I really like hear people having a go at with music. Especially my songs. Putting their own influence into it.

First of all, here is the original version:

Broadcast Fantasy - Jeffstunes

So now you know how the original goes. This is his cover of my song:

Cover of Broadcast fantasy by PetesBehr

It feels good when other people like your songs enough to want to record their own versions. It makes me think that I must be doing something right :)

Now, it's the Youtube update:

I have now got 681 subscribers. Only another 19 to go to get to 700.

My channel views have raced forward to 15,037.

The total viewings for all of my videos are 227,028. Only another 23k to the quarter of a million, and it's moving at about a thousand a day at the moment.

I've been working on my own website recently. I thought that if I'm going to release an album, I might as well bring my site up to date. So I'm updating the info, and changing a few things around. I'll be giving out the URL when It's done, for anyone interested :)

No surprises in my spare time

I decided to take a few days break from putting the album together, and I recorded a requested song, from a while ago. It's one I've always wanted to do because on the surface it seems such a simple song, but it has so much room for expression. The song I'm talking about is "No surprises" by "Radiohead".

The making of the vid was pretty easy. Not much going on in it. I'm just sitting in and out of a shadow, through the entire song. The video to the original is just the singers head, nit what looks like a space helmet to me, filling up with some water. I didn't use any water though.

Instead, I decided to think about different events in my life while singing, so my facial expressions would go through subtle changes.

This is the final outcome:

My cover of No surprises by Radiohead

The latest numbers on my Yotube account.

677 subscribers.

14,891 channel viewings.

224,885 overall video views.

I suppose I'd better get back to album making :)

Album news and a tip

Right. This is the first of my updates on the progress of my album, and also a nice little tip for musicians on Youtube :)

I have decided to choose 4 songs from the ones I uploaded to Youtube. I've selected three already, and these are the three:

Broadcast fantasy - Jeffstunes

Don't wish it away - Jeffstunes

Sight Or Sound - Jeffstunes

I'm going to make a short list of three other songs and put them to a vote. So effectively, the fourth will be chosen by voters.

I've now completed 2 other songs so far. They are "You think it's all over". Which is an adaptation of a song I wrote 2 years ago. The original was played on Spirit FM which covers West Sussex. The 2nd of the new songs songs is called "Soaked to the bone". I completed that one yesterday.

So I have got 4+ songs left to prepare. I've got some numbers in my mind. Some of them have been half constructed already, so hopefully it wont take too long to finish them. It would be nice if I could finish them by the end of next week, but it will probably take me longer.

OK. Here's that tip for Youtube.

If you upload your songs in stereo to Youtube, and get frustrated when the sound comes out in mono, and reduced quality. You might find it interesting to know that Youtube do have a higher quality version of your video.

When you make links to your videos, you will normally use the video URL. To get the higher quality version, all you have to do is add "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL. I suppose you could do that with the embedding too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Here's an example for you. This is a link to one of my original songs:

Don't wish it away - Jeffstunes

Now the same song with the addition of "&fmt=18" to the URL

Don't wish it away - Jeffstunes

Notice the difference?

Now for my regular statistics update.

My subscribers are now at 670.

The channel viewings are progressing quicker now, and currently stand at 14,702.

My total video viewings are increasing by over 1,000 views a day now and are now at 221,328.

More album news coming soon :)

Going further

I was trying to find ways to bump up my daily Youtube viewing figures, when I happened upon a tool that they have in Beta at the moment. They call it "Annotations".

It allows you to add linking text or hotspots to your videos. When I watch videos on youtube, I don't normally pay much attention to what else is on that web page. As a maker of videos myself, that is not very encouraging. However, with this tool, I can make a link pop up on the video, and there's a good chance that it's going to be noticed.

So I ploughed through a lot of my videos and put on the annotations that link to my channel. It took me a long time. It's early days, but I've already noticed a jump in traffic. Especially in my channel views. So it seems to be working.

This is a link to my Channel on Youtube. Where most of the Annotations point to:

Jeffstunes Youtube Channel

So here are my latest Youtube figures, followed by some news :)

I now have a total of 662 Subscribers.

The channel viewings are moving now and currently stand at 14,509.

The total video views are now at 216,799. At this rate I should reach the quarter million by the end of July.

Now for some news. I'm finally releasing an album!

It will be release for digital sales only to begin with. If it provides enough revenue, then It's likely that the money will be invested in a CD release, and some promotion.

The album will contain some songs I've uploaded to Youtube, and a good number of new songs that haven't seen the light of day yet. I'm feeling quite excited by it all. Just the fact that it's being released. I'm going to be updating my blog with the album progress, as I lead up to the release date. Giving info on selected tracks etc :)

More on Broadcast fantasy

This is a bit of an update on the last post I put up. I recently uploaded a new song to Youtube, and the response exceeded my expectations. The title of it was "Broadcast fantasy". It was an amusing view of TV addiction.

The honours I got for this video were more than I could hope for, and there were a couple of firsts too. Literally.

Basically, Youtube has an honours system. Which works on a daily, weekly, monthly and all time basis. There are top 100's for Most viewed, Top rated, Most discussed, Top favourites, Most responded, and some others too. There is an overall set of top 100's that are worldwide, and then there are those that are divided into countries. These are also subdivided into categories. So you could have a video in the top 100 Most discussed of all videos in the world, or you could have one in the top 100 most discussed Music video in the UK.

It's easier to get into the top 100's of some countries because there are less people using Youtube in those countries. The U.S. has to be the most difficult, and the U.K. is pretty difficult too. Which makes my achievement sweeter :)

I normally get a batch of honours for each video I upload, and this is because I have a fair amount of subscribers and friends on my channel, but what I got with this latest video topped it all. I got my first number 1. Not just one, but two!

#1 - Top Rated (Today) - Music (United Kingdom)

#1 - Most Discussed (Today) - Music (United Kingdom)

That happened on 4th June. I was over the moon with them. I put them in my video description as a reminder.

This is the latest on my youtube figures.

Subscribers - 651

Channel views - 14,196

Overall video views - 211,513

I've got some interesting things going on at the moment, and I'm going to be talking about them in my next few posts. It's all exciting stuff :)

This Broadcast fantasy.

I was in the middle of writing another song when I came up with the idea for this one. So I halted progress on the initial song to develop it. It's title is "Broadcast fantasy".

I've finally racked up a year on Youtube, and I wanted to upload a song in celebration, and this one seems perfect. It's a tongue-in-cheek look at TV addiction. As Youtube shares a lot of similarites with television, it seemed like the right choice to make.

The style of this song is again different from my previous compositions. I think this one sits more in the pop arena.

Check it out here:

Broadcast fantasy by Jeffstunes

This video was uploaded less that 24 hours ago, and the response so far is very good. Lots of lovely honours :)

So it's down to the stats again. Here's the latest.

I've now got 639 subscribers on my Channel.

The channel itself has been viewed 13,842 times, and the combine viewings of all my videos are now 205,218.

I'm hoping my next upload will be the song I was originally working on. Though I have been known to change my mind at the last moment :)

European songs

I'm going off line here to discuss a certain European song contest. Music being my focus.

I watched the Eurovision song contest last night. The only reason I watched it was to be entertained by the commentary of Terry Wogan.

Those not in Europe may not be aware of this competition, but in Europe, it's normally a big event.

The overall result was of little surprise to me. With neighbouring countries patting each other on the back with their votes. Especially what I like to call Eastern Bloc Europe. So Russia won it this year. What a surprise!

I had to laugh when one judge said "The best song in Europe", and one of the judges unknowingly got very close to the truth when they said it was a "Great concert", because a concert is pretty much all it was. It's not what I would call a fair competition any more. Terry Wogan said something like that. He is even considering not commenting on the competition next year, I mean concert :)

Am I sore that the British song came joint last with votes from ony 2 countries? No, I'm very shocked though, because I considered it one of the best 5 songs, and I would like to think that I know a bit about music.

It's even more astounding if you look at all the European music charts. There's always British and American songs in there somewhere. And why is that? Well, because it's cutting edge.

I thought it was between Turkey and Norway for the title. Turkey's song was a modern sound, that was not too far removed from a band called Muse, and for pure songwriting craft, you have to give it to Norway. Well at least those two got into the top 10. The British composition was a pretty good one this time around, and deserved a top 10 placing too. My sympathy to Poland and Germany too (The Polish entry was pretty good) who were holding up the table with us. I wonder when Europe started seeing them as politically close to the UK? Political, you hear me say?

That's right. The competition now has a new name for me. The Eurovision Political Popularity Contest. Well, it's certainly not about the merits of the compositions. I think that was made blindingly obvious last night.

So what are my thoughts on Europe?

I adore it, and would love to travel to all the European nations in my life, and enjoy time with indigenous population. I'm just a regular guy who enjoys meeting people and doesn't colour them for the actions of their fellow citizens.

You can accept or refute my views. I wouldn't say I am qualified to pass judgement on that show. After all, I'm just a Songwriter :)

How's it going so far

Well, it's nearly a year on Youtube now, and I've been thinking about what achievements I've made to date. In my opinion, not very much. In relation to lots of others, the Youtube progress is probably quite good, but not as far as my aspirations are concerned. I'm only about 250 subscribers outside the top 100 UK musicians of all time. That appears to be great, but it's not supported me financially at all.

Basically, I'm a singer/songwriter. I write what I consider to be good songs, and that's been backed up by good friends and industry professionals. I realise that at the age of 42, I'm no spring chicken. So I'm not aiming to be a performer. The logical route is for me to write songs, and then push them out to signed bands. In the hope that they would like them enough to want to record and release them. Age doesn't matter. As long as you pen good songs that artists will want to sing and record.

This reflection came about from watching the Jonathan ross show last night. The featured guest was Mr Neil Diamond. He started his career as a songwriter. Writing great songs, such as "I'm a believer", which was a hit for "The Monkees". I'd be more than happy with 1 percent of Neil's success. Neil is someone that my vocals have been strongly compared to.

So I'm not throwing in the towel yet. It's true that the longer you make an effort. The more credible you become to the music industry. The more tunes you compose, the greater the chance of someone important wanting to use them. I've recorded over 100 songs now, but I've only put out about 20 of them. I'm even in the middle of writing a new song at the moment!

Some advice to songwriters. Never, ever give up. You might achieve nothing, but at least if you make an effort. You'll know whether you could have had success. That's better than not knowing at all, and looking back and thinking what if?

If you don't have good financial backing, then it can be a massive sacrifice. You can get to a point where you have almost nothing at all. If you are determined, then you will not let that affect your efforts.

I'm going to finish this post with a link to my Youtube channel, and the current Youtube stats.

Here is my channel. You can listen to some of my original songs there.

Jeffstunes Youtube Channel

Current Subscribers = 621

Current Channel views are 13,352

Total video views are 195,657

I'm going to be building the basic structure around my new song today, so I'll enjoy that.

Until next time :)

A second funny faces update

I have started writing a new song, so there probably will not be any new videos in the next few posts. I thought it would be a good idea to mention some of my comments and messages, because I get so many of them now.

First of all, my "Fun with faces" video. I've now got 8 response videos to it, and more are promised. This is great fun. If any of you are a member of youtube and fancy trying it out with your pic, then be my guest. Post it as a response to my video. The link is below:

Fun with faces

This has been my best perfoming video, as far as the honours are concerned. At one stage it had 20. The one that shocks me the most is that my video is in the top 100 Most responded comedy videos in the UK, of all time!!!!

Astounding!!

I had a comment a few days ago from someone telling me that I look like a guy called "Miroslav skoro". I've never heard of the guy. So I did a quick search. It turns out that he is a Croatian singer. It's really difficult when you try to compare yourself to someone else. I just can't see it. The only comparison I can draw it that the hair is quite similar in some vids.

Well, how's the lay of the land on the Youtube stats situation.

I've now got 616 subscribers and my channel views are now 13,110. I've noticed an increase in the speed of those in the past week. My total video views are 191,821. The way the numbers are climbing at the moment, I think I'm looking at less than 2 weeks before it hits the 200k mark.

It's almost been a year since I joined Youtube. June 2nd will be the anniversary. I'm going to try and get my new song ready by then. It's going to be interesting to see what the second year will bring.

Fun with faces - Response update

The fun with faces video I uploaded has had a really good reaction. As I explained in my last post, I saw the website used on T.V. and decided to try it myself, and make a video out of it. In that video I urged other Youtubers to try it with their own pictures and then post their own video as a response to mine.

So far I have 6 responses, and each one of them are very different, and very funny. Here are the 6 users that have responded to my video so far.

gersing

UpDownMostly

beachfrontal

grandplans

Midnightsongstress7

yeuxlumineuxNtx

You can take a look at their responses by visiting my vid, and clicking on the video responses below it.

Fun with faces

I've discovered in the last day, the web site has adding more transformation options, since I did mine.

If I get several more responses to my video, I might do another update post. I am having great fun with all this, and it does my music good as well, by giving it some exposure :)

A different face.

I was watching a T.V. program hosted by Graham Norton last night. and he went on a website that transformed faces into different ages and races. Such as a child and an East-Asian. All you have to do is upload a picture of you, and you are ready to transform. I didn't hesitate to do it myself, and put the resulting images on my Youtube channel.

I set it as a challenge to the Youtube community. Asking them to go to the site and do the same with their picture. Then post their video as a response to mine. That way, all our strange pictures could be accessible from one place.

I wanted to use music as a background to the slideshow, so I found another old song I wrote, and used that. The song is called "I understand". This way I could get another of my tunes out, and have some fun at the same time.

Go take a look at my video to see what transformations were made to my photo:

Jefftsunes - I understand and funny faces

As per usual. Here are some Youtube numbers.

I've finally broken the 600 barrier with my subscribers, and they now stand at 605.

Channel views are 12,798.

Total video views are 186,136. So close to 200k now. I estimate is should take around 2 to 3 weeks to get there.

Second chance

The reaction to the last cover I did, "Yellow" by "Coldplay" was really good. It had over 800 viewings in the first 2 days of being uploaded.

That was my most requested song. Now on to the second most requested song. A fairly new number from one of my favourite bands, Travis. This song is called Closer, and it's taken from their latest album.

I've had some good ideas for new videos, but I wanted to keep the best ideas back for my own original songs. So I decided to do something funny for this one. The opening sequence on this video, really gave my video editing software a run for its money. I'm pleased with it though.

See what you think of my rendition of Closer by Travis. I hope you enjoy the humour in the video. It made me laugh when I made it.

The Jeffstunes cover of Closer by Travis

I've put several videos out over the last few weeks, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the growth in my Youtube figures so far. I've got 597 Subscribers now. Only 3 to get to 600.

My channel has now been viewed 12,631 times and the total figure of all the viewings of my videos is now up to 183,585.

That's all for now.

Me and Yellow

Now on to the 67th video, which has recently been uploaded. This is a Coldplay song of their first album "Parachutes". I have been asked by many people to do a cover of this song, so it is high time I did it.

This is a number I used to sing quite often, and it's a favourite of some of my personal friends. I find Coldplay songs enjoyable to sing because of the scope for versatility in the vocals, and the chance to do falsetto, and this song is not short on that.

See what you think:

The Jeffstunes version of Yellow by Coldplay

My Youtube numbers are still on the march, and here is the latest update.

Iv'e now got 589 Subscribers. I'm closing in on 600.

The Channel views are 12,360, and the total video views are now 178,166. Nearing the 200k mark.

A number of my Youtube friends recommended that I apply for the Youtube partnership program. I tried it, but got refused in a gentle way. It seems that the quantity of my original material is insufficient, or I don't get enough constant traffic to my videos, to qualify yet. I will probably try again at a later date :)

Video 66. The air that I breathe

In 1995 at 23 minutes past 1 in the morning, my daughter came into this world. And this year she becomes a teenager. It has been a fantastic thirteen years, filled with wonderful memories for me. Over that time I've gone through a lot of pictures and video, and I'm so glad I did. It's all there for me to re-visit, and live the memories again.

So many people have fallen under my daughters spell. Probably because she has eyes that you just can't say no to. Lol. Maybe I think that because I am her father. All parents think their own children are the most beautiful creatures on earth. I most certainly do :)

One of the things I am most proud of, is that she has a beautiful nature too. That's a rare thing. She is totally unselfish, and would give what she has to make others happy. She doesn't ever ask me for anything except my company.

When I was a child, I used to write poetry, and it seems my daughter has followed suit. I just found out that one of her poems has been selected from an international competition, for publication in a book. One of only a few from her school. How proud I feel.

I decided to cover a song, and change 2 words in it to suit my message. The song is "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies. I changed the line "Making love to you" to "Making part of you". I sung it, and put together some clips of my daughters first year of life.

Check it out, and watch out for those eyes :)

Me singing The air that I breathe by The Hollies

These are the up to date numbers on my Youtube channel.

I have 577 subscribers.

The channel views are 12,095.

The overall video views are 174,676.

My cover of Tears in heaven.

I thought it was about time to get a rally of covers up. It's my attempt to try and catch up a bit with my request list. The chances of me getting to the end of the list are about nil. It's well over a hundred songs and climbing. They are coming in faster that I can do them. Lol.

I thought I'd change the way I do things with my covers. Rather than singing in front of camera, I will be recording the songs first, and then I will make the videos for those songs at another time. I'm hoping that this will give me better quality sound, and mixes. I will also have a bit more freedom with the videos I make.

So the first one I chose to do was "Tears in heaven" by Eric Clapton. An emotional song by Eric. Following the death of his son. I couldn't begin to comprehend his grief.

Here is my rendition of this song.

Me singing Tears in heaven by Eric Clapton

The Youtube figures are as follows.

Subs = 569

Channel Views = 11884

Total Views = 171739

I've got a load more covers to put up. I haven't decided which one on the list is going to be next. I'll be recording a number of them. Then I will select from that bunch :)

Getting better quality audio.

Having posted videos to Youtube for nearly a year. Something I recognised was that audio and video quality were limited. If I uploaded a video with good quality stereo audio, It would get converted by Youtube, to lower quality mono. I managed to part resolve that issue with a free video converter that I found, which enabled me to make my own flash videos and set the audio, and video quality.

Recently, Youtube have started to cater for higher quality video and audio though.

All of this lead me to search for another Youtube type site that would allow higher quality, and I came across a site called Livevideo. I decided that I would only put my original songs on thayt site. It doesn't have anywhere near the amount of traffic that Youtube gets, but I was ok with that. It's a place I can send people to hear my songs in better audio quality.

All these videos are in my past posts, but you can check them out in higher quality audio at the following link:

Jeffstunes Livevideo channel

As per usual. Here's the latest info on my Youtube statistics.

The viewings of all my videos add up to 167,997.

I've had 11,668 visitors to my channel, and I have 563 subscribers.

I shall be uploading another song to youtube soon. So that means I'll be posting soon too :)

Things that surprise you.

OK this one's really fresh. It was uploaded a little while ago!!

It's an original song that I put together over the last week or so.

On all of my other videos that contains my original songs, the videos are made up of images, in the style of a slideshow. So this one is a break from that pattern. This is the first time I've made a sort of movie out of one of my own songs. I wanted to theme the video on the meaning of the song, and I reckon I've managed to achieve that.

The name of the song is "Don't wish it away". It's about those that want the days and years to be over. Maybe it's grief, or impatience. Or maybe something else. The video is centred on things disappearing, and also things going in reverse. There is symbolism in all of this.

Check out my new song:

Dont wish it away - Jeffstunes

Here's the regular digest of Youtube food (for me).

My channel has been looked at 11,329 times, and the overall viewing figures all of my videos are now at 162,129.

I'm mulling over a cover version for my next video. There are three song I want to do. The songs are "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies, "Running on faith" by Eric Clapton or "My father's eyes", also by Eric Clapton.

Original tune - Sight Or Sound

So now I've reached the sixty third vid. At last I have caught up.

This is one of my own songs and it is titled "Sight Or Sound".

I have been writing poems since before I was 10, and one of my favourite things to do, was to make puzzles out of my poems, and hide meanings and subtleties within the words.

So it was inevitable that some of that would cross over into my songwriting. This song is a good example of that. In the description, I ask people to work out what the song means, and if they can discover all the links within the song and the video. I have only given the answers to those that have asked. I could tell everyone, but I prefer that some know and understand, and some don't.

This was a song that I wrote early last year, and it features a very good friend of mine, and a very accomplished guitar player. He is "Steve Morgan". He only recently got married. So I hope he has a wonderful future with his wife.

So I hope you enjoy the song, and the wonderful skills of Steve.

So I got there in the end. I've caught up with my video releases. So I'm not too sure what the next post will be about. I'll know once I've decided what song to upload. It might be an Original song, or one of the masses of cover songs that have been requested of me. Over 100 now I think :)

An epiphany

This next song was a sort of collaboration with a musician in Canada. I came across this guy last year, before I started posting videos up on to Youtube. He writes a lot of music, and was eager to co-write songs with other people. So he would send me the music that he created, and I would attempt to put words and a vocal melody to it. It's a bit like Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The difference was that we made absolutely nothing from it :)

We got through several songs, and we both quite liked the final results. Then I started posting my videos up to Youtube, in about July. Very ealy this year, I started to encourage my canadian musical friend to start posting his own music up to Youtube as well. He has done very well up to this point, and that's well deserved.

Now to the point of the post, and the song in question. He posted up some music, inviting others to put words to it. It inspired me, so I worked on the lyrics and vocal melody, and I called the result "Traffic signals". I used some imagery in the video, which is symbolic of the meaning.

So here it is:

If you like the music in this song, then I suggest you go and take a look at his Youtube channel. His username is 'Songvibe'. He's got a decent collection of songs on there already.

As per usual. This is the latest on the stats.

There are 11,121 channel views.

There are 156,734 overall video views. Up by a few more thousand

So to the next post. It's an Original song that features a very good friend of mine, and an excellent guitarist.

Take me home - by me.

I've been away from the computer for most of last week. My grandmother passed away two weeks ago, and the funeral was a couple of days ago. She was a wonderful woman, who I loved. She had a long life. She reached the ripe old age of 93.

In the early part of last year, I was taking part in music collaborations. One of these was with a Swedish man called Ulf. He is a very talented guy, and has retired from performing. He is now concentrating on composing, and is currently providing music for film and television. I would say that the main area of his music is electronic. I finished one song with him, which he wrote the music for, and I wrote the words and vocal melody. However, this is not that song. I only mention it because he wanted to have a go at doing the music for this song. We never got around to doing it, so this one is all me. It's an original song by me, called "Take me home".

It's about someone who has made a big mistake in a relationship, that caused it to break. In the words, the person is begging for forgiveness.

Have a listen, and see what you think.

Video 60. All I've got to do

Now for something a little different. A good friend of mine asked me if I could do an alternative version of a Beatles song several months ago. The only provision was that I could not select any of their songs that had been hit singles. The song I was to choose, had to come from one of their albums. I listened to all of their albums, and picked 10 possible songs out of all of them. Then I whittled it down to just one.

Penning my own material is normally quite easy, but this was more challenging than I initially thought. With my own songs I can hear the full arrangement in my head, and all I have to do is to bring that into reality. However, with this song. It already had music to it, and I had to try and forget the original music, so that I could come up with my own. It wasn't a quick process, but I eventually came up with something in the end.

Check out my new version:

My version of All I've got to do by The Beatles

My next video is another of my Original songs. One I wrote last year.

Now to round up with my Youtube figures.

The subs are now up to 526.

The viewings of my channel are 11,071.

The sum total of my video viewings are 150,542.

They'd always just gone there

Only one more to the 60th vid. This is number fifty nine. This is one of those songs that is quite memorable. The reason for that is that it's quite a different song. It is "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" by the "Crash test dummies". If you are familiar with this song, then you will know that the lead vocal is quite low. So it was a chance for me to reach to the depths of my voice and give it a good go.

This is what it ended up like:

Me singing Mmm mmm mmm mmm by The crash test dummies

You might notice that I make a reference to a guy called Tay Zonday at the beginning. Anybody that has done the Youtube rounds will have probably heard of him. He became famous for a song he put on Youtube called "Chocolate rain". The song is nothing special, but his voice is something you cannot forget. It is a surprise to see that sort of voice come out of his frame. He appears very much like a student, but when he starts to sing. This low thunderous sound comes out. Very low :)

This is what is happening with my Youtube stuff at the moment.

My subscribers are up to 522.

The viewings for my channel are now 11,048.

Finally, the total video viewings are 148,768.

Only a couple of weeks and will have caught up with my videos. Then I can post to my blogs as I release the videos. The next of my videos was a challenge set by a friend last year. I've had such a backlog of requests, that I only got around to doing it recently. The clue is "The Beatles"
